Drum Making Workshop

You are warmly welcome to join us for this drum making workshop held by Joshua Wenzl and assisted by Ayla Schafer, where you will be guided step-by-step by in birthing your own drum. Held in a yurt in beautiful nature on Dartmoor, UK.

Before making your drum, you will be taken on a drum journey held by Ayla to meet and welcome the spirit of your drum.

Together we will set our intentions, call in the elements and the four directions, and give gratitude to the spirits that offered themselves to be used in creating the drums.

We will also give blessings, prayers and offerings to the Spirit of our drum before and throughout the birthing journey. We call it a 'birth' because we are giving a body to the spirit of the drum that will become our companion.

There can be something indescribably potent and powerful to make one’s own drum, woven with intention, prayers and love. The drum becomes imbued with the unique essence and spirit of the maker, intimately connected to them. Your drum can become a powerful instrument to accompany your songs and prayers.

We only use natural and responsibly sourced materials.

We keep the numbers to a small group of 8.

We will be sitting on the floor for the duration of this workshop.

Included in this workshop is:

• Workshop  to make your own 14'' or 16'' Drum and beater.
• Drum Journey to meet the Spirit of your drum.
• Organic vegetarian lunch.
• Tea and Organic fresh fruit.

Materials provided:

• Hand made 14 or 16'' wooden frames  (Oak or Ash).
• Wild Red Stag Deer skin from Scotland.
• Materials for making a beater (Oak or Ash sticks, natural tanned deer leather, and sheep wool).

Please bring with you:

• Something organic to give as an offering to the Spirit of your Drum - Flowers, crystals, fruit, feathers etc.
• A water bottle.
• A blanket and something to lye down/sit on (yoga mat/ blanket/ sheepskin).

For every drum make in this workshop we will plant 5 trees with Music Plants Trees.

If for whatever financial reason the ticket price is not possible for you to meet then please get in touch with us. We do not want finances to be an obstacle for people to be able to join or not.
